How to Ace Every Interview You Give

Updated: Sep 28, 2020

The thought of appearing for an interview can seem daunting and intimidating. You probably feel like a deer in the headlights, especially if this is your first foray into the professional world. But fear not, here is a brief breakdown of interview preparation to its bare minimum, to help you feel more confident and ace that interview. Remember the abbreviation COPPER.

  • Call ahead- If you are unsure about the location, or feel like you cannot make the interview that day, call ahead and speak to them. The employers will more often than not be happy to help. In matters of rescheduling an interview, always make sure to call as soon as you realise you cannot make it at the original time slot. This helps save the employers time as well as show them that you value their time.

  • Overlooking your body language is a mistake- Body language plays a more important part than your reference papers. Shocked? Read our blog on body language to find out why.

  • Pre-Interview Preparation - Make sure you have done your research, about the company and your employer. Knowledge is power, and amassing as much of it as you can before entering a situation is always helpful. You can find tips on how to research your employer here.

  • Prepare your questions as well- Always remember, an interview does not entitle only the employer to ask you questions. You can and must pose questions of your own, turning the interview into an interesting conversation. You will learn more about your potential workplace and the hiring manager and can decide if it is the right fit for you. Read our blog about asking the correct questions here .

  • Enter and Exit with a smile- Always be open and friendly, because any interview, whether a success or not, is a chance to expand your network. The world can be a small place and knowing how to network is the key to your professional growth. If you’re confused about how networking works, you can read our blog on networking here.

  • Remember to be objective- It’s all about being professional and open to learning. Every interview and professional encounter can be a learning experience for you if you view it objectively.
